When the weather takes a turn and rain showers disrupt your outdoor plans, it’s essential to have a repertoire of indoor activities to keep your canine companion entertained and happy. Discover a variety of engaging options that will stimulate your dog’s mind, promote physical activity, and provide hours of fun, regardless of the weather outside. Let’s explore a range of exciting activities that will turn rainy days into memorable playtime for your furry friend.
- Proof your training!
- Before reading about some fun indoor activity’s, I’d love to share a little fact about dogs! They are terrible at inferring. Like so bad, in fact the first time it started snowing around Eeki Teeki and I (we were practicing his Heel at Bruce Pit) we had to go on leash outside the park because he couldn’t even remember what his heel meant!
- Take this chance to proof any training, if your reading this post its probably shitty weather and a great time to train!
- Indoor Agility and Obstacle Courses:
- Create a mini agility and obstacle course using household items like tunnels, pillows, and cones.
- Guide your dog through the course, encouraging them to jump, weave, and crawl to enhance their physical fitness and mental focus.
- If it is nice outside be sure to check out a local free agillity course in your area, your dog will love it! (Don’t let them pee inside the ring PLEASE)
- Nose Work and Scent Games:
- Engage your dog’s natural scenting abilities with nose work and scent games.
- Hide treats or favorite toys in various locations around the house, encouraging your dog to use their nose to find the hidden treasures.
- Obedience Training and Tricks:
- Use indoor time to practice obedience training and teach your dog new tricks.
- Focus on reinforcing basic commands, shaping behaviors, and introducing fun tricks that will challenge your dog’s learning abilities.
- Indoor Playdates and Socialization:
- Arrange playdates with other dog owners in a safe and spacious indoor environment.
- Encourage positive interactions and socialization between dogs, promoting mental stimulation and companionship.
